In the gentle embrace of a sun-kissed morning, a majestic Morning Cloak butterfly delicately perches upon a bed of vibrant green and white leaves. The Morning Cloak is a large butterfly native to Eurasia and North America.  Its wings, an exquisite display of nature's artistry, are adorned with velvety ebony hues, elegantly contrasted by brilliant splashes of fiery orange along the outer edges. The intricate patterns on its wings, resembling delicate marbled brushstrokes, add an enchanting touch to its presence.

The Red Admiral is a common and regular migrant in the Netherlands. The species is regularly seen in gardens during mid-late summer. They are often found feeding on garden Buddleias or during late summer/early autumn seen feeding often in large numbers on flowering Ivy and rotting fruit in gardens and orchards.\n\nHabitat: Anywhere in the Netherlands where abundant nectar sources are available and Common Nettle the larval food plant can be found.\n\nDistribution: This familiar butterfly can be found anywhere in the Netherlands in almost all habitat types. It is a strong flyer and is known to migrate from continental Europe to the North every year.\n\nThis is a common Migration Butterfly in the Netherlands.
Nymphalis antiopa, known as the mourning cloak in North America and the Camberwell beauty in Britain, is a large butterfly native to Eurasia and North America. The immature form of this species is sometimes known as the spiny elm caterpillar.

Polygonum c-album is a common resident in the Netherlands. In the 20th century, its area of distribution underwent waves of expansion and contraction. This expansion is continuing at present, and the species can now be found all over the country.\nHabitat: The Comma Butterfly especially occurs in open deciduous or mixed woodland. There, it is usually seen in the lighter parts, such as in woodland clearings or at the woodland edge, on damp, rough vegetation. It can be found in parks and gardens in woodland areas.\nFlying Season: Polygonia c-album flies in one or two generations, the first from the end of June until mid-August.\nThe species hibernates as an adult butterfly.
05 september 2023, Illange, Thionville Portes de France, Moselle, Lorraine, Grand Est, France. It's summer. At the entrance to the forest, a Comma Butterfly has landed in the foliage of a tree. The butterfly is in profile, its wings are closed. We can therefore see the brownish underside of its wings, much less visible than the orange upper part. A white comma contrasts in the middle of the brown.
