![The church is located in the fork of the L'Aquila-Foggia sheep track with the Centurelle-Montesecco sheep track, making it a strategic structure in the period when transhumance played a fundamental role in the economy of southern Italy. The current church was built on the remains of the church of Santa Maria in Coronula of the Frati della Cintura [2], dating back to the year one thousand. The name of the church underwent many variations over time, including Coronella, Centorella, Scientorella, Scientorelli, Centorellis, Incerulae and Cintorelli. The current correct wording is that of Centurelli. According to tradition, the construction of the current church was begun following a miracle that occurred in 1502, to be completed in 1561. In the mid-sixteenth century, the bishop's and parish jurisdiction over Caporciano was exercised by the Congregation of the Celestines, which in 1560 an agreement with the Deputies of the San Pietro factory in Rome for the incomes and alms of the church, being authorized to affix the coats of arms of the order on the facade, on the entrance portal and on the main altar. With the decline of the importance of transhumance at the end of the nineteenth century, the church also started to progressively deteriorate, so much so that in 1877, on the occasion of the last pastoral visit of Monsignor Luigi Filippi, the church was already abandoned forbidden to worship for the first time on 25 July 1905 and then definitively on 19 April 1935.
