Beautiful May flowers, photographed at my home in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil in 07/01/2017.\nThe Mayflower is one of the most cultivated cacti in the world, due to the exuberant beauty of its flowers, ease of cultivation and absence of thorns. It is an herbaceous plant, epiphyte, 30 to 60 cm high. The stem is formed by succulent articles, which do not have spines.\nIts flowers appear in the extremities of the articles, being able to be yellowish, rosy, red or white, forming in the period of fall-winter. Its flowers are widely visited by hummingbirds. Photo taken in the garden of my house in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil on 05/31/2018. Schlumbergera truncata, also known as the flower of May, is a species of Schlumbergera, of the botanical genus of the cactaceae family. It originates from Brazil and its popular names are: May flower, Christmas cactus, Easter cactus, silk flower. It flowers in the southern hemisphere autumn, featuring pink, white, orange and red flowers. Its life cycle is perennial. It has a stem formed by several articles that can be detached to form new plants.\n The Mayflower is from the cactus family, but it has no thorns. In its original habitat, the Atlantic Forest, it has an epiphyte behavior. That is to say: just like orchids and many bromeliads, it uses the trunks of trees as support. Thanks to the horticultural improvement, the variety of colors available today in the market is immense.
