The Pasteur Institute (Institut Pasteur) is a French non-profit private foundation dedicated to the study of biology, micro-organisms, diseases, and vaccines. It is named after Louis Pasteur, who made some of the greatest breakthroughs in modern medicine at the time, including pasteurization and vaccines for anthrax and rabies. The institute was founded in 1887. For over a century, the Institut Pasteur has been at the forefront of the battle against infectious disease. Since 2020, the Pasteur Institute has been working on research into the vaccine against the Covid-19 coronavirus. The Abertura dos Portos monument in Manaus was created by Italian architect Giovanni Battista Costa. It was built in 1892 to commemorate the opening of the ports of Manaus to international trade, which took place on November 15, 1889.\n\nThe monument is a granite column 15 meters high, topped by a bronze statue representing the Republic. The base of the column is decorated with bas-reliefs representing scenes from the history of Manaus.\n\nThe monument is located in the center of Manaus, on Praça da República.
