A distant view approaching Elephant Island, Antarctica, where Ernest Shackleton’s men had to spend an uncomfortable few months while awaiting rescue after their ill-fated expedition.
Tough conditions are normal here – expect rough seas, high winds, icy rock and generally unpleasant conditions - most of the times. However, Elephant Island can have nice, really nice, days. If you are lucky to encounter that kind of conditions, you will see the beauty side of the island.
Glacier covered mountains abound in several mountain ranges of the large continent including continuous mountains forming the Antarctic Peninsula. Storms are born on the high plateaus and come racing down the mountain face. This photo is from an island in the Peninsula.

Lemaire Channel is a strait off Antarctica between Kyiv Peninsula and Booth Island. Because of it's protected waters its becoming popular for cruising.
Iconic complex of particularly difficult to climb rock peaks called Mooses Tooth (10,335 feet/ 3139 m) or Moose’s Tooth, located near the Ruth Gorge in Central Alaska Range, within Denali National Park.
