There are at least six different species of Acacia Tree called “Aromo” in Chile, with ‘dealbata’ being an import from Australia some time in the last two hundred years. The Oropendola is a large bird with pointed bills, and long tails which are always at least partially bright yellow. Males are usually larger than females.\n\nOropendolas are birds associated with forests or, for a few species, more open woodland. They are colonial breeders, with several long woven basket nests in a tree, each hanging from the end of a branch.\n\nThey are very vocal.  This one was photographed flying away from its hanging nest in Costa Rica near Arenal Volcano.
