Karakum Desert north of Darvaza / Derweze, Dashoguz Province, Turkmenistan: Darvaza gas crater, also known as the Door to Hell or Gates of Hell, is a burning sinkhole in a natural gas field, the result of a collapsed cavern. It it has been burning continuously since it was set alight by Soviet geologists in 1971. The crater has a diameter of approximately 70 meters and a depth of approximately 25 meters. Turkmenistan holds the world's 4th largest natural gas reserves.

The powerful scenery of Ebino Highlands
High winds 80 to 100 miles per hour fueled apocalyptic wild fires which tore across open grasslands and through homes in Superior, Colorado off highway 36. Power was cut to 34,000 homes and over 30,000 residents were forced to evacuate. Over 1,000 homes and businesses were destroyed by the Marshall fire outside Boulder, Colorado which was sparked by downed power lines in high winds on December 30, 2021.
I spent a beautiful day in my hometown of Apache Junction, Arizona. I took photographs of parks and nature when I traversed the town. I shot everything in black and white to give my photos that old, rustic feel.

Darvaza Gas Crater, The Gate of Hell, or Door to Hell. In the middle of the Karakum Desert, Central Turkmenistan, Central Asia. Sits above the largest natural gas reserve in the world. The crater was created by the collapse of drilling equipment onto an underground cave, and the gas was set on fire in 1971. It's still burning. It is now the prime tourist destination in Turkmenistan.
