Osmanthus fragrans, native to Asia (Japan, China and Himalayas), and commonly called fragrant olive, sweet olive or sweet tea, produces clusters of flowers that have an extremely powerful apricot fragrance. A handsome, carefree evergreen shrub with dense, spineless, thread leaf foliage on an upright, bushy form. The soft, narrow, dark green leaflets create a fern-like appearance. Bright yellow flower spikes appear in fall, followed by purple-blue berries. Use as a filler in borders and beds or as an accent.

A Symphony of Fragrance: Osmanthus Blossoms
This is Russian vine (Fallopia baldschuanica), originating from eastern Asia but here growing in Merton, London. This fast-growing vine is related to Japanese knotweed and has similar invasive qualities, needing no invitation to scramble over trees, bushes and walls. Other names for the Russian vine are mile-a-minute vine; China fleece vine; fleece flower and silver lace vine. Earlier scientific names for the same plant are (Fallopia aubertii), (Polygonum baldschuanicum) and (Polygonum aubertii).

Rosa banksiae, commonly called Banksian rose, is a climbing rose. It may be trained to an arbor, fence or wall where it will climb and cover. Double white flowers with densely packed petals bloom in clusters in May-June with no repeat bloom. Flowers are mildly scented. Long flexible, almost thornless stems are clad with green leaves.
