Their long wings make brown pelicans extremely durable and graceful fliers, and groups of brown pelicans are often seen flying in formations just above the surface of the water. It is a common resident in the southern Bahamas, the Greater Antilles, and locally in the northern Lesser Antilles, east of Montserrat. Uncommon to rare across the rest of the Antilles, with a few birds roaming between the islands. Migrants nesting in North America increase numbers locally mainly from November to February. The brown pelican is the official state bird of the US state of Louisiana and is depicted in the seal of Louisiana feeding three chicks.

The white-faced whistling duck (Dendrocygna viduata) is a whistling duck that breeds in sub-Saharan Africa and much of South America.\n\nThis species is gregarious, and at favoured sites, the flocks of a thousand or more birds arriving at dawn are an impressive sight. As the name implies, these are noisy birds with a clear three-note whistling call.
