Short hairy perennial with long, creeping and rooting runners. Leafs in tufts, pinnate, with 15-25 oblong, sharply toothed leaflets, silvery-hairy beneath. Flowers yellow, 15-20mm, solitary, the petals twice the length of the sepals.\n\n\n\n\n\n

Argentina anserina or Potentilla anserina is a perennial flowering plant in the rose family, Rosaceae. It is known by the common names silverweed, common silverweed or silver cinquefoil. It is native throughout the temperate Northern Hemisphere. Asilomar State Beach, California.

Flowers golden-yellow, occasionally cream or orange, 12-20mm, in racemes of 1-12.\nHabitat: Dry meadows, often short grazed, banks and rocky places, usually on calcareous soils, sea level to 2800m.\nFlowering Season: June-September.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except the  extreme north, Faeroes, Iceland and Norway.\n\nThe Picture is made on a rocky Chalk Hill in the South of Belgium (Ardennes) in June 2019.

Extreme close up favouring the dead centre of this small flower. Yellow tormentil (Potentilla erecta) is also known as bloodroot, erect cinquefoil, septfoil and shepherd's knot. Tormentil is quite distinct from other Potentillas in that it has only four petals. Its herbal uses have been for diarrhoea and ulcerative colitis. Extracts from root and herb have been a gargle for throat and mouth, and a lotion for haemorrhoids.
