A Lockheed Martin F-35A Lightning II aircraft of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) powers up and prepares to takeoff from the Richmond Base in western Sydney.  The RAAF announced on their website it was conducting training exercises with up to six aircraft on 11 and 18 May 2023.   A small crowd of people gathered to watch as two planes at a time landed, refueled and took off.  The outline of the mesh wire fence is visible in the image.  The heat from the engine creates a distortion in the air.  In the background are a parked row of Hercules cargo planes.  This image was taken from outside the perimeter on a cloudy and stormy afternoon of 18 May 2023.
