A bright yellow wildflower of the early spring is the winter aconite (Eranthus hyemalis). It is responsible for large patches of yellow flowers highlighted against dark green leaves / foliage.

A yellow carpet of lesser celandine (Ranunculus ficaria), a spring time wildflower that is found typically in UK woodlands. The individuals in this single clump are connected at the roots, which is why most will have eight petals. I have seen as many as 13 petals on a lesser celandine flower.

Aquilegia or Columbine is perennial wildflower, which is native to most temperate areas of the world. It tends to cross-pollinate, hybridize, and self-seed freely, creating new strains and colors.
