A view of the stunning frescoes inside de apse of the Duomo of Spoleto, a medieval town in the Umbria region, central Italy. The frescoes, depicting the Stories of the Virgin, were painted by Filippo Lippi between 1467 and 1469. The Duomo, or Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Cathedral of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary), was built starting from 1067 in Romanesque and Lombard style and consecrated in 1198. Spoleto, one of the most visited medieval cities in Italy, hosts the Festival of the Two Worlds, a world-famous event that brings together hundreds of artists, musicians, classical dancers and opera singers every year. The House Finch (Haemorhous mexicanus) is a year-round resident of North America and the Hawaiian Islands.  Male coloration varies in intensity with availability of the berries and fruits in its diet.  As a result, the colors range from pale straw-yellow through bright orange to deep red. Adult females have brown upperparts and streaked underparts.  This male finch was photographed in Edgewood, Washington State, USA.
