An evergreen shrub in the heath family, mountain laurel is Connecticut's and Pennsylvania's state flower, and Mount Tom is one of the oldest Connecticut state parks. Sometimes these shrubs form impenetrable thickets. In New England, mountain laurel blooms in June.
