The baroque equestrian statue depicts Johann Wilhelm von Pfalz-Neuburg , the Elector Palatinate and Duke of Jülich-Berg , known as Jan Wellem by the people of Düsseldorf who spoke Low Franconian at the time . The plastic, which Grupello created on behalf of his electoral employer, is today one of Düsseldorf's landmarks.
