Pied avocet have slender bill with characteristically curved tip. When foraging in shallow water or on mudflat, bill swings laterally on water or mud surface to detect and single out the preys. In this figure, you can see the bill of a pied avocet. By sifting laterally, they can single out the preys more easily. Diet mainly includes aquatic insects, crustaceans and molluscs.
