It's a fully public event, visited around 2 million visitors, happening every five years. During the festival world famous tall ships are anchored in the harbour of Amsterdam. One of the guests at the Sail Amsterdam event is  the Norwegian vessel Statsraad Lehmkuhl. The 3-masted steel bark, built by Johann C. Tecklenborg AG in Bremerhaven-Geestemünde in 1914 served at first as a training ship for the German merchant marine.
