The facade and the medieval bell tower of the Basilica di Santa Cecilia (St. Cecilia Basilica), in the ancient Trastevere district, in the historic heart of Rome. According to legend, this church was built starting from the 5th century in the place where St. Cecilia was martyred, in 220 AD. The church took on its current Baroque style after some transformations made in the 16th century. Inside, under the main altar, you can admire the marble statue of St. Cecilia made in 1599 by the sculptor Stefano Maderno, which depicts the body of the saint covered by a veil, as it was in her original tomb present in the ancient perimeter of the church. Trastevere is an iconic district of the Eternal City, due to the presence of countless artistic and historical treasures, monuments and ancient Romanesque and Baroque churches, but also for its squares and alleys to be explored freely, where it is easy to find typical restaurants, pubs, small shops of artisans and scenes of daily life with the original Roman soul. Rome, Italy: The church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus (1584), known primarily as the Chiesa del Gesù or more simply as Il Gesù , is the mother church of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits' headquarters. The construction of the church, which overlooks Piazza del Gesù , is considered an important turning point in the history of art , because it was built according to the spirit of the decrees of the Council of Trent: it was designed with a single nave, because the attention of the faithful was concentrated on the altar. The Church of the Gesù was the model for various buildings of worship erected by the Society of Jesus around the world, such as the Church of the Gesu at the Ateneo de Manila - architects Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola, Giacomo Della Porta and Michelangelo Buonarroti
