A beautiful townscape with the Duomo and the historic heart of the medieval city of Spoleto, in the Umbria region, central Italy. The Duomo, or Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta (Cathedral of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary), was built starting from 1067 in Romanesque and Lombard style and consecrated in 1198. Spoleto, one of the most visited medieval cities in Italy, hosts the Festival of the Two Worlds, a world-famous event that brings together hundreds of artists, musicians, classical dancers and opera singers every year. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the quality of the olive oil produced in these lands. A green landscape of Umbria with in the foreground the Basilica di Santa Chiara (Basilica of Saint Clare) and a glimpse of the medieval town of Assisi. Built in the Italian Gothic style in 1257, the Basilica of Santa Chiara preserves the mortal remains of the saint and the famous Crucifix of San Damiano, in front of which St. Francis discovered his vocation. Over the centuries Assisi and the spirituality of these places have become a world reference point for peace, tolerance and solidarity between peoples and different confessions. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the high quality of the olive oil produced in these lands. Since 2000 the Basilica and other Franciscan sites of Assisi have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Image in high definition format.

A suggestive glimpse of the Duomo of Gualdo Tadino, a medieval town between Spoleto and Gubbio, in the Italian region of Umbria. Built in Romanesque style starting from 1256, the Duomo or Cathedral of San Benedetto (St. Benedict of Nursia) is among the best preserved in the region. In the lower center, a Renaissance-style fountain attributed to the Florentine sculptor Antonio da Sangallo the Elder (1455-1534). An important city since Roman times, Gualdo Tadino rises along the ancient consular Via Salaria, traced by the Romans. Its history runs throughout the Middle Ages and, despite having been partially destroyed and sacked numerous times and placed under the dominion of Perugia, this ancient Umbrian center still retains its medieval charm. The church of San Pietro is a Catholic place of worship in Assisi, in the square of the same name, where an ancient Roman necropolis once stood. u built by the Benedictines in the 10th century, the church has been remodeled several times until the final reconstruction which dates back to the 13th century. The façade made of red stone from Mount Subasio has a rectangular shape. Originally, the façade culminated in a tympanum which was demolished after the earthquake of 1832. With three entrance portals which correspond, in the second band, to three rose windows. The two bands of the facade are divided between them by a cornice with hanging arches. The central portal is flanked by two roaring lions. The interior of the church, which was restored in 1954, has three naves separated by pillars, with the raised presbytery, semicircular apse and dome. There are six tombs from the 14th-15th century and the remains of frescoes from the same period. Under the main altar there is the sarcophagus with the body of St. Victorin the martyr, the third bishop of Assisi and co-protector of the city. Interesting is the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, in Gothic style, with a precious triptych with a Madonna and Child between Saints Peter and Victorino, made between 1468 and 1475 by Matteo da Gualdo, also you can admire an Annunciation, at on the right a Madonna Enthroned and on the right wall San Vittorino.
