It is in this area that the Spanish Conquistador, Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada founded the city in 1538. To the left of the image, the building with the balconies and the terracotta roof tiles, was the old mint, and is today the Museum Casa de Moneda; the street leads down to Plaza Bolivar. One of the bell towers of the Catedral Primada on the Plaza can be seen in the image.
