Unlike many plastic wall-trophy-fish images, this is a picture of a real, wild Alaskan salmon known as red salmon, or sockey salmon or scientifically Oncorhynchus nerka. Spawning males develop dull-green head and brick-red to scarlet bodies, pretty for a picture, bad to eat. This specimen has been caught in Kenai River, Alaska, and released soon after picture taking. This fish is naturally covered with slime, hence tha picture may look somewhat blurry, still, it is sharp
Living in the Northern Pacific ocean the Red Sockeye salmon fish live in schools and mate in rivers.

A moment in flight is captured as this salmon has made it over the rapid waters. Many such as this will make the quest to Valdez, Alaska, completing the circle of life. Loop

Kokanee salmon spawning in a remote stream. British Columbia, Canada. Kokanee salmon - a landlocked species of salmon - turn bright red in late fall during spawning. The clear creeks in the region provide an impressive show of colour during this annual event. Bears, wolves, coyotes, eagles and other carnivores frequent these streams to feed on the fish. The fish lay their eggs and then die.
Brown bears can be distinguished from American black and polar bears by their distinct shoulder hump, dish-shaped face, and long claws. They can vary in color from black to blonde. Brown bears, also known as grizzly bears, can be found in many of our national parks. Annual salmon migrations drive the bears to the river to fish as the salmon swim up river to their spawning grounds.
