Spiraea cantoniensis, also called Bridal-wreath Spiraea, Cape May, Double white May, May bush, and Reeve's Spiraea, is a deciduous perennial shrub typically grown as an ornamental plant in gardens. The plant can reach a height of about 2 meters, tends to be twiggy and spreading into a fountain-like form, and displays frothy clusters of white flowers along the terminal of arching branches. The bush blooms in May; hence the common name of May bush.

Spiraea thunbergii is a deciduous shrub with white flowers blooming all over its branches in spring. It is a very durable garden tree that grows in thin areas regardless of soil quality. The name of Spiraea thunbergii is derived from the fact that the weeping branches resemble willows, and the appearance of snow-white florets blooming on the branches is reminiscent of snow. Even if it is cut back to the root of the plant after flowering, new branches will grow and beautiful flowers will bloom the following year.
