Picture of the catholic church of Pancevo at dusk. Crkva Svetog Karla Boromejskog is a church located in Panevo, Serbia. It is dedicated to Saint Charles Borromeo and serves as a place of worship and community gatherings. The church is noted for its architectural design and historical significance in the region. It is an important religious site for the local community and visitors interested in the cultural and religious heritage of Panevo. The image captures the clocktower steeple of the Serbian Roman Catholic Church of Crkva Svetog Karla Boromejskog, also known as Saint Carlo Borromeo, in Pancevo, Serbia. The church's architectural details and religious significance make it a notable landmark in the region.
This church, the largest in Derbyshire, was built in the 14th century and the famous 'crooked spire' was added in about 1362. Although it was at first thought the spire was twisted owing to the lack of skilled craftsmen after the recent Black Death or Bubonic plague, it's now thought the twist is the result of the lead which covers the spire. Sun shining on the south side in the day causes that side to heat up and expand at a faster rate than the north side, leading to unbalanced expansion and contraction.
