Hairy Frogfish Antennarius striatus occurs circum-subtropical in a depth range from 10 to 219m, max. length 25cm. Adult male specimen have more intense coloration and extended cutaneous appendages than females, for juveniles it's not yet distinctive. This is probably an adult male. \nLembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia\n1°27'13.104 N 125°14'14.634 Eat 14m depth

Colour variations of Leaf Scorpionfish Taenianotus triacanthus include white, pink, yellow, tan, brown and black with mottling. The species occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific in a depth range from 5-135m, usually 5- 20m, max. length 10cm. \nThe species has the habit of mimicking a dead leaf by swaying from side to side. \n\nSince the fish has a narrow body, the backlight penetrates almost everywhere.\n\nLembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°25'51.2087 N 125°11'5.1449 E at 5m depth

Weedy Scorpionfish Rhinopias frondosa occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from South Africa (off Durban) east to southern Japan, the Caroline Islands, and eastern Australia in a depth range from 10 to 297m, max. length 23cm. \nThe colour can range from yellow and lavender to dark red and purple. Like most Scorpaenidae, Weedy Scorpionfish are mostly nocturnal ambush hunters, using their camouflage to prey on unsuspecting fish and invertebrates. They rarely swim (thes do not have a swim bladder!), but rather move along the bottom propelling themselves with their fins. \nThis specimen was encountered in the Lembeh Strait, Indonesia.\n1°25'51.21 N 125°11'5.142 E at 30m depth

The Leaf Scorpionfish (Taenianotus triacanthus) is a small, benthic marine fish that is well-camouflaged for its reef-associated lifestyle. It is a cryptic ambush predator that relies on its red or yellow coloration and the ability to mimic its surroundings to blend in with the rocky or coral reefs it inhabits. Its elongated body, broad head, large eyes, and wide mouth are all perfectly adapted for its feeding strategy. The Leaf Scorpionfish is venomous, possessing spines on its pectoral, dorsal, and anal fins, which it uses for defense. This species is typically found in shallow waters and is active at night, preferring to be solitary. The Leaf Scorpionfish is widely distributed throughout the Indo-Pacific, occurring in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and is an important component of marine biodiversity. However, its populations are threatened by overfishing and habitat destruction, highlighting the need for conservation measures to protect this unique and fascinating species.
Commerson's Frogfish or Giant Anglerfish Antennarius commerson occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific and Eastern Pacific in a depth range from 1 to 50m, usually not deeper than 20m, max. length 45cm. \nThis species can be found in a variety of colours including yellow, orange (like this specimen), red, green, brown, and black. It can be found living on coral reefs and in lagoons and often on artificial structures such as wrecks and jetty pylons. \nIt is known to prey on other fish species and on small shrimps using its excellent camouflage to hide from potential prey. The appearance of this fish is designed to conceal that he is a fish, not a sponge. Easier to eat, less probable to be eaten. Not only for predators, often for photographers too: It's in front of your nose, and yet you don't see it!\nLembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia\n1°29'33.414 N 125°15'40.446 E at 20m depth
