Developed by Piper Aircraft Corporation, the L-4 Grasshopper was a militarized version of the Piper J-3 Cub, a popular civilian aircraft of the era.\n\nThe primary role of the L-4 Grasshopper was observation, reconnaissance, and liaison duties. It was used for artillery spotting, aerial photography, courier missions, and communication tasks, providing vital support to ground troops.\n\nThe L-4 Grasshopper saw extensive service during World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Air Forces, the U.S. Navy (as the NE-1), and other Allied air forces. It played a vital role in numerous campaigns, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Pacific island-hopping campaign.
