Rome, Italy, March 30 -- A solitary night view of Castel Sant'Angelo and Ponte Sant'Angelo. Built around 123 AD as a sepulcher for Emperor Hadrian and his family, the current Castel Sant'Angelo was used as a fortress, prison and refuge by the Popes due his proximity with the Vatican. It is currently owned by the Italian state and is used for visits and cultural events. Image in High Definition format.

This Grade I-listed triumphal arch was designed by Decimus Burton. It stands between Green Park and Hyde Park on Hyde Park Corner. It was built between 1816-1830, although it has been moved from its original location. It was built to commemorate Britain;s victory against Napoleon in the Napoleonic Wars. People can be seen in the background.
