$Left abandoned outside a hangar to the elements, this huge cargo plane is slowly becoming overgrown with moss and algae, the dirt is streaking down its hull, and the crevices around the engines are being used as nesting sites by birds. \n\nThe plane is monstrous however, 4 gigantic propeller engines - 2 per wing - power what was obviously once a beast of an aircraft, the size easily allowing it to carry troops, supplies, even vehicles in its hold. \n\nNow it stands as a piece of aviation history, obviously disused and obsolete, the tech has been surpassed by more moden aircraft.$

$While in a climbing turn to port, having overshot the autopilot controlled approach to RAF Woodbridge, Suffolk, with the undercarriage and flaps raised, both engines failed at an altitude of 300 feet. The pilot levelled off, advanced both throttles, and turned on the fuel supply from the No.3 tank, but not quickly enough to relight either or both engines. \n\nThe aircraft lost altitude rapidly, and the pilot was unable to reach open ground for an emergency landing before the aircraft collided with some trees, and two small fires broke out in the wreckage. The aircraft came down one-and-a-half miles South East of Sutton Heath, near RAF Woodbridge, Suffolk. \n\nThe two crew - Flight Lieutenant Harry Maule (pilot) and Mr. Mike Burgan (Civilian Flight Test Observer) - were injured. \n\nNote that the Canberra which flew until September 2013 as \$

$An old cargo transport aircraft, the moss, staining, and streaks of dirt down its hull made some very interesting patterns. \n\nThe aircraft obviously had some military usage in its history, whether it carried troops, supplies, vehicles, or a combination of everything I don't know. The proboscis on the nose of the aircraft is for refuelling midflight, so it could fly extreme distances so long as tanker aircraft were available to refuel from.\n\nIt is a monolithic piece of engineering, and only standing on the floor under its wingspan do you get a real impression of how big these cargo planes now are, they're a feat of design and engineering, even when obsolete and left abandoned outdoors.$

This Vulcan last flew in 1981. Although it is exhibited at the Castle Air Museum in Atwater, California, it apparently is still property of the British government. The Vulcans became infamous during their use in the Falkands conflict in 1982. This image is stitched from two photographs.
