I recently visited the park for a solo weekend getaway, which allowed to me to take some more challenging hikes and get better views. This day, I chose to take Mt. Ryan hike, which takes you 1000 feet above the plateau. Unfortunately, the forecast called for grey skies and some rain. I climbed up Mt. Ryan under a covered sky and misty rain. When I got to the top, however, the rain stopped and the sky opened up, leaving huge cumulous clouds behind. Through this cloud formations came beams of sun light, which lit up some boulders while leaving the neighboring ones in the shade. This created a contrast on landscape that is typically monotonic, The sky itself, hanging low over the plateau, was spectacular. Viewed from above, I realized how randomly distributed the giant boulders are.

This vast desert area of Southern California offer miles and miles of exploration. The Anza Borrego Desert State Park is visited by many who visit Southern California.
