At the forefront you can see part of a (usually fully filled) shallow pond.Rijksmuseum (English: State Museum) Amsterdam at the background is being restored and renovated since 2003. It will reopen in 2013. A 400 piece top collection is still on display, in an already renovated part of the museum. Two of the most famous paintings in Rijksmuseum are 'The Night Watch' by Rembrandt van Rijn, and 'The Milkmaid' by Johannes Vermeer. Besides Rijksmuseum, three other museums are located around the square: the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and the Diamond Museum.
