The majestic Flavian Amphitheatre, known as the Colosseum due to a colossal statue that stood nearby, was built in the 1st century AD. at the behest of the emperors of the Flavian dynasty, and hosted, until the end of the ancient age, shows of great popular appeal, such as hunting with exotic animals, gladiator fights and even evocations of historical naval battles. The Roman Forum, one of the largest archaeological areas in the world, represented the political, legal, religious and economic center of the Ancient Rome, as well as the nerve center of the entire Roman civilization. Ephesus was an ancient Greek city on the western coast of Anatolia, on the Ionian coast three kilometers southwest of the Selçuk district of today's İzmir province, and later an important Roman city. Its foundation dates back to the Neolithic Age 6000 BC. It was built in the 10th century BC by Attic and Ionian Greek colonists on the site of the former capital of Arzawa.
