The tomb of Thomas Guy, the founder of Guy’s Hospital at London Bridge in South East London. The tomb is positioned just inside the inner door of Guy’s Hospital chapel. Thomas Guy (1644-1724) was an English merchant and politician who had become a governor of St Thomas’ Hospital in 1704. Being a considerable donor to the hospital and also extremely wealthy, he decided to build a new hospital “for incurables”. His tomb is marked by a life-size marble monument by John Bacon, which portrays Guy as a “living Samaritan” helping an invalid.
