The museum was drawn-up by architects Karl Moser and Robert Curjel and opened in 1910. The original museum building was extended in 1925, 1958 and 1976. On 7 March 1943, at St. Florin's in Vaduz, Franz Joseph II married Countess Georgina of Wilczek (24 October 1921 – 18 October 1989). It was the first time that the wedding of a ruling Prince had taken place in Liechtenstein. They had five children, twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Unveiled in 1900, funded by philanthropist Henry Rosenberg (1824-1893) upon his death willed to the city of Galveston, fifty thousand dollars for this monument to be built to honor the heroes of the victory of the Texas Revolution in 1836.  Lady Victory stands atop the monument holding a wreath stretched toward the north into the state of Texas.  This bronze sculpture was the second tallest at the time next to the William Penn sculpture atop Independence Hall in Philadelphia.
