Zoanthids are an order of cnidarians commonly found in coral reefs, the deep sea and many other marine environments around the world. These animals come in a variety of different colonizing formations and in numerous different colors.

$Sun Coral Tubastraea faulkneri is a large polyp stony coral from the family Dendrophyliidae. The species occurs all over the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean in a wide depth range of 3-225 meters, often in greater densities on vertical walls and caves. \nThese corals are slow growers and they do not contribute to coral reef development. Unlike many tropical corals, they are azooxanthellate or non-photosynthetic, meaning that they do not live in symbiosis with zooxanthellae in their tissues, allowing them to grow in complete darkness as long as they can capture enough food, usually plankton. \nThey extend their translucent tentacles like these specimen during the late evening and the night, while during the day the tentacles are completely withdrawn. \nTriton Bay, West Papua Province, Indonesia, 3°54'2.454 S 134°6'23.7 E at 14m depth$

$Diploastrea heliopora occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific Ocean in a depth range from 3-15m from the Red Sea and East Africa to Western Australia, to the Ryukyu Islands and Fiji. This is one of the most easily recognised and least variable of all massive corals. The diameter of a single corallite is 8-10 millimetres. Diploastrea heliopora forms dense, robust, dome-shaped coral colonies. $Orange Cup Coral Tubastraea coccinea occurs in tropical and subtropical Western Atlantic and Indo-Pacific in a depth range from 1-37m. This large-polyp stony coral is not a reef building species. The coral extends beautiful translucent tentacles at night.
