The dance of the flying men is a 1400 year old ritual, the meaning of which varies in many areas of Mexico. The ritual of the Voladores was once only performed on certain festivals in honor of the fertility and spring gods. The flute player represents the sun, the others the four elements earth, air, fire and water.
