$Architecture of Angkor Wat\n\nAngkor Wat is one of the world’s most famous temples. It was built in a remote area near the Cambodian-Thai border, and only a few military personnel and tourists visit it every year.\n\nThat makes sense — you have to be careful when visiting Angkor Wat at night, due to its legendary temple architecture.\n\nMany of its buildings are more than 1,000 years old, and some date back to the early days of Khmer civilization.\n\nThe main temple is wide and square, with tall white pillars lining its sides. Its roof is circular, made out of stacked wood beams covered in lead.\n\nA smaller secondary temple is attached to the north side of the main one. These two temples are linked by a long corridor that leads to all four corners of the building.\n\nIn between these two smaller temples is another large one.
