Loropetalum chinense, commonly called Chinese fringe flower, is a white-flowered broad-leaved evergreen shrub of the witch hazel family. It is native to woodlands in Japan, China and Southeast Asia. Leaves are pale green. Lightly aromatic, spidery flowers bloom in clusters in spring (late March-April). Each flower has four narrow, downward-drooping, strap-shaped white petals. However, it is the rubrum variety, with its reddish or pink flowers, that made this shrub popular in landscaping.

The flower is Abelia × grandiflora, which is a cross between A. chinensis and A. uniflora. It is a rounded, spreading, multi-stemmed shrub in the honeysuckle family.
