The entrance door to Block 10 at Auschwitz I, a notorious barracks used by the Nazis for a variety of purposes, including as a prison block and a location for medical experiments on prisoners. Block 10 was one of the most infamous buildings at Auschwitz, where many suffered under the hands of Nazi doctors like Josef Mengele. Now part of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, this door serves as a haunting reminder of the brutal and inhumane treatment of those imprisoned during the Holocaust.

Birkenau (Auschwitz II) was lit by floodlights and searchlights mounted on guard towers and surrounding electrified barbed wire fences. These lights enabled constant surveillance, prevented escapes, and reinforced control over prisoners. The continuous illumination, especially at night, was part of the camp's broader system of oppression.

The village of Mödlareuth (Little Berlin) in Germany, separated for decades by the Iron Curtain. Mödlareuth is a village with 40 inhabitants, located partly in the Free State of Thuringia and partly in the Free State of Bavaria in the Vogtland. For 41 years, the inner-German border ran through the middle of the village. Because of this situation, Mödlareuth was often called Little Berlin. The German-German Museum is located in Mödlareuth with exhibits on the inner-German border, an original piece of the Wall and a replica barrier system that was typical of the GDR border.
