The Bee Beetle (Trichius fasciatus) is a striking member of the scarab beetle family (Scarabaeidae), often mistaken for a bumblebee due to its dense yellow-orange hairs and bold black bands on the elytra. This mimicry helps deter predators. It’s commonly found in Europe during summer, especially on thistles and other wildflowers where it feeds on pollen and nectar. The larvae typically develop in decaying wood, playing an important role in nutrient cycling. Despite their bumblebee disguise, bee beetles are harmless and contribute to pollination in their habitats.
