Information Booth Clock in Grand Central Station. New York City, NY. USA. October 2022
The E. 42nd Street facade of Grand Central Terminal includes this monumental sculpture group, Glory of Commerce, designed by French sculptor Jules-Felix Coutan. At the focal point is Mercury, representing transportation and commerce. On the right is Vulcan, symbolizing industry and manufacturing, while Minerva, on the left, stands for wisdom in civic governance.\n\nAt its unveiling in 1914, this was the largest sculptural group in the world at 48 feet high. The elegant clock below includes what is still the world's largest example of Tiffany glass at thirteen feet in diameter.\n\nThe Met Life Building (originally Pan Am Building) provides a modernist backdrop for Grand Central, a Beaux-Arts jewel.

In Manhattan, “meet me at the clock” needs no further explanation - it means the four-sided clock atop the information booth in the main concourse at Grand Central Terminal. \n\nThe clock faces are 24 inches in diameter and covered with opal glass. The acorn at the top is a reference to the Vanderbilt family - Cornelius Vanderbilt owned the New York Central Railroad, which later built Grand Central Terminal. The acorn symbolizes the motto of the Vanderbilt family - “from a little acorn a mighty oak shall grow.” \n\nIn the background is one of the many large, ornate chandeliers that illuminate Grand Central.
