The non-territorial species lives as a couple or alone, protecting its eggs from nearby predators. Porcelain crabs are filter feeders and they filter water with their mouthpart appendages (known as the third maxillipeds) rather than using their antennae. \nThis specimen was encountered in a Merten's Sea Anemone Stichodactyla mertensii in the Lembeh Strait, North Sulawesi, Indonesia\n1°28'47.196 N 125°14'12.42 E at 17m depth$

West Island, Cocos Islands: the brown land crab (Cardisoma carnifex), a semi-terrestrial species of the family Gecarcinidae, inhabits coastal environments in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, where it is abundant in saltmarsh areas and along lagoon fringes. Characterized by an oval-shaped, swollen carapace that is smooth and brown to brownish-gray in color, adults can reach up to 20 cm in carapace width, with males exhibiting one enlarged claw. These crabs construct burrows in moist soils to regulate osmotic pressure and humidity, emerging nocturnally or during wet periods to forage on plant matter, detritus, and occasionally small invertebrates. In the Cocos Islands, they play a role in nutrient cycling and are occasionally observed in forested areas. They are air-breathers that periodically immerse in brackish or saltwater to maintain ion balance but are not fully amphibious.
