These wonderful frescoes, a late Baroque masterpiece made in 1685, represent the Apotheosis of Ignatius, icon of the Jesuit missionary spirit, simulating the perspective of a second roofless church, set between the clouds and the sky. However, due to the annexation of Rome to the Kingdom of Italy, the work was interrupted; it was only thanks to San Giovanni Bosco that construction could be resumed in 1880 and completed in 1887 by the architect Francesco Vespignani. The splendid frescoes inside the church of Sant'Ignazio di Loyola in the Baroque heart of Rome with the false perspective of the dome and apse. Built in 1626 as the main church in Rome of the powerful order of the Society of Jesus, known as the Jesuits, this church represents a masterpiece of Baroque art. The painter Andrea Pozzo created a series of frescoes inside the church which simulate the lack of a roof along the main nave and the presence of a dome on the transept, elements which in reality do not exist.
