The Common Spotted Orchid, Dactylorhiza Fuchsii is a herbaceous perennial plant ranging from 10 to 60 centimetres (5 to 25 in) in height. The densely packed flowering spike can be seen between JuneAugust in the United Kingdom. The flower colour can vary from white to pale purple with purple spots bearing a symmetrical pattern of dark purple loops or dots and dashes with three floral lobes. Typical habitats are varied including forests, meadows, boggy ground and margins of streams.

Orchis militaris, the military orchid, is a species of orchid native to Europe. It is the type species of the genus Orchis.

$Plants to 60cm. Leaves 6-12 usually dark spotted, the lower oval to oblong, the upper lanceolate. Bracts mostly shorter than the flowers. Flowers pale pink, pale purple, or whitish, the lip with darker looped-lines and spots; lateral sepals spreading, the upper sepal and petals forming a hood; lip 7-11mm, 3-lobed, wavy edged, the central lobe small and tooth-like, often shorter than the adjacent lobes; spur up to three quarters the length of the ovary.\nHabitat: Moorland, damp grassy and wooded places, mainly on acid soils.\nFlowering Season: June-early August.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except Spitsbergen.\n\nThis Species is scarce in the Netherlands in suitable Habitats and therefore Protected.\nThe Picture is made on the Isle of Texel.$
