The peak of Denali prominently visible above the surging Muldrow Glacier in Alaska’s Denali National Park. When the photo was taken the surging Muldrow Glacier was grinding its path down from the mountain more than 100 times faster than the glacier typically moves. Denali (also known as Mount McKinley) is the highest mountain peak in North America, with a summit elevation of 20,310 feet above sea level. With a topographic prominence of 20,194 feet and a topographic isolation of 4,621.1 miles, Denali is the third most prominent and third most isolated peak on Earth, after Mount Everest and Aconcagua.

Snow‑clad peaks of Denali dominate the Alaska Range under soft skies. Low clouds drift past sheer ridges and glacial slopes, showcasing the majestic scale and isolation of North America’s tallest mountain.

Mount Denali (formerly Mount McKinley) rises in the Alaska Range. With an elevation of 20,310 feet (6,190 m) above sea level this is the highest peak in North America. Mountains around form part of the Denali National Park. Photograph taken from the South-West on a sunny, summer day.
