Sipadan, Malaysia, is a diver’s dream destination where you can encounter vibrant marine life, including the mesmerizing blue-ringed octopus. Despite its small size, this octopus stands out for its vivid blue rings that pulse with color, especially when it feels threatened. These striking displays are both a warning and a visual marvel.\n\nFound in coral reefs and sandy areas, the blue-ringed octopus is elusive and best spotted by keen-eyed divers exploring Sipadan’s pristine underwater landscapes. Its graceful movements and vivid hues make it a highlight of any dive.\n\nSipadan’s rich marine ecosystem, with its clear waters and abundant sea life, offers ideal conditions for observing this tiny but captivating creature. While its beauty is enchanting, divers must respect its space, as it is one of the most venomous animals in the ocean. A sighting of the blue-ringed octopus in Sipadan is a truly unforgettable experience.

Long Arm Octopus Macrotritopus sp. is pelagic in the larval phase. As adult he lives on sandy or muddy surfaces. \n\nWhen you think of a long-armed octopus, you think of a meter-long animal. It is the proportions, the small head (6cm) compared to the arms (15cm), that make this animal appear so long-armed. \nThe Long Arm Octopus found in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Lembeh Strait, may represent an undescribed species within this genus. \nUnlike some of more robust cephalopods, the Long Arm Octopus are normally quite shy. They are often found resting inside a small hole in the sand with only their head sticking out.\nThis specimen was encountered in the Lembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°28'56.394 N 125°15'15.588 E at 9m depth

These captivating nighttime images showcase a Gloomy Octopus (Octopus tetricus), also known as the Western Gloomy Octopus, in the waters off Busselton, Western Australia. This intelligent cephalopod is a master of camouflage, capable of rapidly changing its color and texture to blend into the seabed. It thrives in sandy and rocky environments, often using shells and debris to create protective dens. At night, it becomes an active predator, hunting crustaceans, mollusks, and small fish with remarkable dexterity. Some researchers propose that the WA population may be a distinct species (Octopus djinda), but this is still under study. These images capture the octopus in its element—an elusive and mesmerizing creature of the underwater world.

Veined Octopus or Coconut Octopus Amphioctopus marginatus (ex. Octopus marginatus) occurs in temperate and tropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific in a depth range from 0 to 190 m, max. length 30cm, mantle length 10cm, max. weigth 400g. \nThe Veined Octopus can bury itself in sand or mud. They also exhibit a curious behaviour adaption of using discarded clam shells and halves of coconut shells for protection. Sandy and muddy habitats the octopus inhabits leave itself little protection from passing predators. Discarded halves of coconut shells are common in waters near human settlements throughout Indonesia. When two halves fit together, the halves make a perfect refuge difficult for predators to open. \nAmphioctopus marginatus lays up to 100 000 small eggs which hatch into tiny planktonic young. These young are carried in ocean currents, accounting for its wide distribution. \nThis specimen in a bivalve shell was encountered in the Lembeh Strait, Indonesia \n1°28'56.3943 N 125°15'15.59 E at 15m depth
