Rome, Italy - February 02, 2020: The Mausoleum of Hadrian, usually known as Castel Sant'Angelo is a towering cylindrical building in Rome, Italy. It was initially commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian as a mausoleum for himself and his family. The building was later used by the popes as a fortress and castle, and is now a museum.

The Mausoleum was converted to a Castle by the Popes in the 14th Century AD. The Papal State also used Sant'Angelo as a residence and even a prison. In 1669 Pope Clement IX ordered the construction of a new parapet designed by Giovanni Lorenzo Bernini on which ten statues depicting the Angels of the Passion of Christ were placed.
