The Velvet Ghost Pipefish is a marine fish species belonging to the family Syngnathidae, commonly found in benthic habitats such as coral reefs and seagrass beds. These slow-swimming fish are skilled ambush predators, feeding on small fish and other small marine creatures. They are known for their camouflaged appearance, which includes brown, gray, white, black, yellow, orange, red, green, blue, and purple coloration, as well as their elongated body, long snout, and transparent fins.
Sun Coral Tubastraea faulkneri is a large polyp stony coral from the family Dendrophyliidae. The species occurs all over the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean in a wide depth range of 3-225 meters, often in greater densities on vertical walls and caves. \nThese corals are slow growers and they do not contribute to coral reef development. Unlike many tropical corals, they are azooxanthellate or non-photosynthetic, meaning that they do not live in symbiosis with zooxanthellae in their tissues, allowing them to grow in complete darkness as long as they can capture enough food, usually plankton. \nThey extend their translucent tentacles like these specimen during the late evening and the night, while during the day the tentacles are completely withdrawn. \nSeveral ascidian species, tubeworms, hydroids are there too. \nTengah Island, Indonesia, 5°8'44.496 S 132°0'46.254 E at 8m depth

High-hat Triplefin Enneapterygius tutuilae occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from East Africa to Micronesia, Line Islands, and Society Islands, and Taiwan to Australia, including Papua New Guinea, Line Islands and Society Islands, Taiwan to reefs of Coral Sea and New Caledonia in a depth range from 0-55m, max. length 4cm. Adults are found in various reef habitats, but often on sponges or reef outcrops and in intertidal pools and on corals and rocks. The species feeds on zooplankton. \nEven if it is the most common and most widely distributed among Enneapterygius species, this tiny and well camouflaged fish is rarely encountered. \nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, West Papua Province, Indonesia \n3°54'41.0503 S 134°7'18.2052 E at 4m depth

A scrawled filefish is swimming in the middle of the frame, with its body angled slightly upwards, as if it is curious or alert. The background is a deep blue ocean with a sandy bottom adding depth and realism to the image. The image is taken from a slightly lower angle, looking up at the fish, creating a sense of perspective and intimacy.

Striped Poison-fang Blenny Mimic Petroscirtes breviceps occurs in the tropical Indo-West Pacific from East Africa to Papua New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to New Caledonia in a depth range from 1-15m usually to 10m, max. length 11cm. \nAdults inhabit coastal reefs and estuaries in sandy and weedy areas among clumps of Sargassum or other seaweeds. They also take shelter and nests inside small-necked bottles and abandoned worm tubes or shells. \nThey feed on small crustaceans, diatoms, and perhaps other plant material associated with such clumps. They use their fangs defensively and will not hesitate to bite if handled, thus, species of this genus are avoided by predators. \nThese specimen live at 5m depth on a mooring line of a buoy that marks an outer reef. The photo was taken in the late afternoon when it was almost dark already. \nTriton Bay, Kaimana Regency, Indonesia, 3°56'26.082 S 134°7'36.63 E at 4m depth

Squat Lobster
Marbled Shrimp Saron marmoratus, a species of cleaner shrimp, occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea south to Madagascar and Mozambique, east through the Persian Gulf, India, south east Asia through the southern Pacific, including Australia as far as Hawaii in a depth range from 1-17m over dead coral rubble. In 2013 Saron marmoratus was found off the coast of Lebanon, probably having reached the Mediterranean by Lessepsian migration through the Suez Canal from the Red Sea. The species is nocturnal and can vary the colour of its body so that at night it turns primarily red, camouflaging the shrimp in the twilight. Palau 7°4'57.6228 N 134°15'41.31 E at 8m depth by night
