The shell of the shells is formed by an asymmetrical piece coiled in a spiral whose opening will be to the right or to the left if the shell is observed with the apex upwards and the opening towards the observer. Most species of gastropod molluscs have a shell that opens to the right, (Dextrogiro) while in the rest of the species it opens to the left (levogiro). However, within the same species individuals can be born with this character arranged on the contrary, constituting rarities.\n\nThe shell of the shells has a variable shape but is usually spirilated. It is characterized by univalve and strong and solid. It is made of calcium carbonate and its appearance can be bright, enameled and pleasant and vivid colors. The shell can present a series of ornamentations such as: holes and respiratory canals, vertical ribs, spiral cords and sutures.\n\nThe class Prosobranchia, now in disuse, was characterized by a shell frequently with an operculum. the operculum is the structure that acts as a door or lid of the shell. Currently, conch shells are more frequently called Orthogastropoda species.\n\nThe name conch is especially applied to marine species that have both pointed ends, that is, they have high spires and a noticeable siphonal channel. When the shell is spirilated in shape, it presents several regions or structures such as the opening, the columella, the return of the body and the spire. The vast majority has an attached structure that is responsible for closing the shell when the snail retracts into this so-called operculum which is of variable shape and size.
