$July 30, 2024. Madrid, Spain. The Statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree (in Spanish “El Oso y el Madroño”) is a sculpture from the second half of the 20th century, situated in the Spanish city of Madrid. It represents the coat of arms of Madrid and is found on the east side of the Puerta del Sol, between Calle de Alcalá and Carrera de San Jerónimo, in the historical centre of the capital. \nThe statue is a work of the sculptor Antonio Navarro Santafé [es] (1906-1983) and it was inaugurated on 19 January 1967. It was promoted by the section of Culture of the City council of Madrid, which wanted to represent the main heraldic symbols of the city in a monument.\nThe first appearance of a wild bear and a strawberry tree on the coat of arms of the city was in the 13th century. Previously, it only incorporated a bear in passant attitude, until it was replaced in the aforementioned century by the two current figures. With this change, they wanted to symbolise the resolution adopted by the municipality and the Chapter of Priests and Beneficiaries after a long litigation about the control of Madrilenian pastures and trees. Since this agreement, the former became property of the Chapter and the latter of the council. From here they modified the arms, including a strawberry tree and of a bear in a new posture: leaning on the tree with both paws.$

$Goiânia, Goias, Brazil – July 11, 2021: Detail of the Latif Sebba Viaduct in the city of Goiânia. Located where the Praça Latif Sebba was popularly known as Praça do Ratinho, at the intersection of Avenidas 85, D and Rua 87 between the Marista, West and South sectors.\nThe project was born by the Goiás architect Marco Antonio Amaral and consists of a monument and a level crossing with two lanes and a height of 4.6 meters from the slab to the ground, for a possible improvement in traffic in the region, popularly known as Viaduto do Ratinho, its construction began in August 2007 and was completed at the end of the same year. It was built in about 120 days by the company Planex Engenharia Ltda, and the engineer Raul Sbroia Filho was responsible for the work. The monument is a reference to the beginnings of urbanization in Goiânia and its three points are directed to the areas that the city grew the most and is in continuous growth, which are the East, West and South regions.$

Since 2009, on the esplanade of the port of Cartagena, stands out the Zulo, an impressive bronze sculpture representing a naked man sitting with head down and hugging his legs. The monument is a tribute to the victims of terrorism, and is a work by Víctor Ochoa, a sculptor born in Madrid.
