Blacktip Reef Shark Carcharhinus melanopterus occurs in the tropical and subtropical Indo-Pacific from the Persian Gulf, the Red Sea and East Africa to the Hawaiian Islands and the Tuamoto Archipelago, north to Japan and south to Australia and through the Suez Canal in the eastern Mediterranean, in a depth range from 0-75m, max. length 200cm. Rainbow Runners Elagatis bipinnulata inbetween the sharks. The species occurs circumtropical and subtropical in a depth range from 0-150m, usually 2-10m, max. length 180cm, usually 90cm. Palau announced 2009 world's first shark sanctuary, banned all commercial shark fishing within its exclusive economic zone. 600000 sq km (230,000 sq mi) of ocean are protected now.
