15th October 2024, Ubud,Bali: An Indonesian woman in traditional clothing walking praying to god during Nyatur. In Balinese Hinduism, Nyatur Desa is a sacred ritual performed in various villages, such as Desa Pakraman Ipah in Karangasem and Cau Belayu in Tabanan. This ceremony involves parading sacred effigies (prelingga), like Barong and Rangda, around the village to purify the area and invoke protection from negative energies. It's part of a broader tradition called Mecangcang, where these effigies are enshrined for 42 days in a temporary shrine outside the main temple. During the Nyatur ritual, offerings such as segehan agung and animal sacrifices are made to deities like Ida Bhatari Durga, seeking harmony and balance in the universe.
